Protos AB is a leading player in sustainable food production with roots on Gotland. The company offers both animal and plant-based products under brands such as Smak av Gotland and Smak av Svea and is Sweden’s largest supplier of KRAV-certified meat. Technical challenges and new needs led to change
Before Protos switched to Telavox, they used an older on-premise PBX that was both technically outdated and administratively cumbersome. Klas Hult, IT Manager at Protos, and his team realized that the existing solution was inefficient, difficult to adapt, and that the cost of upgrades was too high. At the same time, the need for mobile telephony and smooth integration possibilities increased, making a modern cloud-based solution a natural step. They had a clear requirements list when they began looking for a new solution.
“Even though I have worked with PBX systems before, it felt better to turn to a company that had trained technicians at its core. With the old solution, I would have needed to build everything myself, but that would take too long and be too complicated. It’s simply not our thing – and not what we should spend our time on. ” says Klas.
A flexible and future-proof telephony solution
After a thorough evaluation of the market, Telavox was chosen as the optimal telephony solution for Protos. A decisive factor was the ability to have full control over the PBX without having to rely on external support. With Telavox’s intuitive interface and smooth self-service functionality, the IT department can easily create and adjust queues as well as adapt PBX functions according to business needs. In a short time, they have gone from two to 18 different queues to both connect phones that need to call out from the same number and created queues that go to specific internal groups so that callers reach the right person faster.
“The simple interface was a big advantage for us. We can adapt the PBX ourselves, create queues and manage users without hassle – it makes administration much smoother. ” says Klas.
In addition to flexibility, stable telephony and a modern cloud PBX were also important.
“We had a great need to be able to work flexibly between computer and mobile, where fixed and mobile numbers could be smoothly connected. We set up a clear requirements list when we started looking for a new solution – and with Telavox we could happily check off every point. The delivery has lived up to all our expectations and filled exactly the need we had. ” says Klas Hult, IT Manager at Protos.
Protos has also integrated telephony with its own local AD to manage users in a smoother way. They have also chosen to integrate with Teams where they have seen the need for some of their employees.

Simple check with existing customer was the icing on the cake
Before Protos made the final decision to invest in Telavox, Klas wanted confirmation from one of Telavox’s existing customers. He therefore called up a customer he found himself, and reached their receptionist. Her answer became decisive for the choice.
“I asked her straight out how it worked for them, and she answered that it was nothing she thought particularly much about, but that it just rolled along. She herself added and removed users, switched around in the PBX and handled telephony without problems. That was exactly what I wanted to hear and it gave us the final confirmation we needed to be able to make a decision. ” says Klas.
He concludes with: “If someone were to call Protos with the same question today, I would give them the same answer: It’s easy to administer, the daily operations just work, and it gives us peace of mind in everyday life.”
The future with Telavox
Right now, Protos is working on a comprehensive update of its IT infrastructure, and sees advantages in being able to make smarter integrations with telephony in the future, such as with statistics tools and possible connection to their upcoming CRM.
